The FA Cup

Chelsea and Portsmouth played a match that decided who would walk away with a trophy on Saturday. As you may have heard, Chelsea ended up winning due to a goal in the 59th minute by Didier Drogba from a free kick. The odd thing about that match though is that both teams each received a penalty kick during the game and they were either blocked or missed. So basically, when the circumstances were a little bit more difficult, they can score, but when they are easy, they miss it by a long shot. Of course the game ended 1-0 with Chelsea on top and Chelsea was able to walk home proud.

That was not all Chelsea was happy about. The week before, they were declared winners of the entire Premier league. Chelsea has always been a good team, but this year they stilled surprised everyone. Now all we await is the champions league final between Bayern Munich and Inter Milan this Saturday.

World Cup Song

Many of you are not aware of a singer by the name of K’naan. Many of you will end up knowing him after the time period of June 11th to July 11th. That’s right. K’naan’s song got picked to be the official 2010 FIFA World Cup Song. K’naan is a Somalian musical artist who likes to talk about his home continent of Africa. It seemed only right for his song, Wavin Flag, to be used in the World Cup. I was familiar with K’naan’s music before it he became extremely famous. This was by far his most famous song. Of course, the song itself has been through many revisions for different circumstances.Here is the original.

That song was revised for the incident in Haiti as well. Many famous singers were used including Drake and Justin Bieber. Here is that version.

The song as you can see has been reproduced into different languages such as my very own language of Arabic. Nancy Ajram, a famous singer in the Arab world is featured in that version. Here is that version.

As you can see, this song has already started to take fame world wide and is going to continue to grow. Congrats to K’naan.

Predictions By Me!!

The World Cup can be unpredictable as you may know, but most people establish predictions on their own. I for one will show you, group by group, my predictions and opinions.
Group 1:Uruguay is just not going to have a chance against these tough competitors. France barely slid in to the World Cup, but they are still ranked number 7 by FIFA. South Africa has not had enough experience because they didn’t participate in the qualifiers like everyone else. Mexico is a strong team to begin with many strong supporters. In the end, it will be Mexico and France.
Group 2:We all know Argentina has clinched a spot in the next round already, but since Greece isn’t that good, who will win between Nigeria and Korea Republic. Korea Republic doesn’t seem to have many supporter behind it so I also predict Nigeria will go through as well.
Group 3: When most people see this group, they automatically think that USA and England will advance. While agree with them on England, I don’t agree with them on USA. Algeria has become very unpredictable after knocking out Egypt. Now many people are afraid of them. Although I am leaning towards USA, I think there will be a couple of surprises.
Group 4: Germany is one of the toughest teams from Europe this year and to most, just their name is intimidating. Ghana though is very strong too. Although they may not provide competition to Germany, they have a strong chance to make it through.
Group 5: The number three team in the rankings is the Netherlands. They are most likely going to be the first team to move on. Samuel Eto’o and Cameroon are very strong in Africa despite a few slip ups here and there. Denmark and Japan are not very much liked in this World I guess.
Group 6:Italy is the best team of this group so I just wanted to state the obvious by saying they will move on. The other three teams are equally matched so I really can’t say who will advance. This might be fun to watch.
Group 7: The toughest group is this group. Brazil is the number one team so it might advance. The other three teams are equal as well, but they are also all strong. This is the group that I will focus on and everyone else will focus on too. Ivory Coast may move on and have a good chance too.
Group 8: Spain is the number 2 team so they will probably advance from their group. Honduras and Chile are equally matched, but it doesn’t matter becuase Switzerland will surpass them both.

United VS. Chelsea

We all know the one match that everyone looks forward to in this world and that match is between Manchester United and Chelsea. Manchester United, in the past week has risen to the top to be number one and Chelsea is right behind them with only a point less. If Chelsea wins they might have a chance to make it back to the number one spot, but is United wins, they have a chance to widen the margin between number one and two. The videos you see before you show just how intense their matches have been throughout the year.

One of the most memorable matches was just last year when they played each other and a tie occurred. The score was 2-2 and the teams had to go into dreadful penalties. They should put some sort of warning before penalties start.
Warning: These next few moments may be very suspenseful. This may not be suitable for children under the age of 18. Excessive biting of the finger nails may cause someone to have their hand slip and bite their finger off.
Luckily these penalties ended in Chelsea’s favor (4-1). Usually most of these matches are close and are determined by something occurring in the last second. Ladies and gentleman, we are about to witness the rebirth of this match once again this Saturday. For you American viewers, this match will start very early in the morning so be sure to set your alarms. You won’t want to miss it.

Did You See That??????

I am sure you have so far enjoyed this exciting week of UEFA. So many exciting matches occurred such as Manchester vs. Bayern, Barcelona vs. Arsenal, and Internazionale vs. Moscow.
Arsenal’s match with Barcelona was one for the books. Arsenal played very sloppily and had very little shots on target in the first half, but a little bit of defense was able to stop Barcelona and keep the score 0-0 at the end of the first half. But just as soon as halftime ended, Ibrahimovic scored a fantastic goal to make it 1-0. It was a heart breaker for Arsenal who’s hope slowly started to wither away. Adding more to their misery was Ibrahimovic again who scored another goal a little later on in the 59th minute. Normally one would give up now. Right? Wrong. Ten minutes later Walcott scored a goal for Arsenal and he answered the fans prayers. Alright, almost twenty minutes went by and nothing happened and the game was drawing to a close. Now you give up. Right? Nope, wrong again. In the 85th minute, a miracle occurred. Arsenal was awarded a penalty kick! Puyol tackled a little to hard when Arsenal was going for the goal. He was given a red card and sent off. Fabregas went for the penalty as the suspense built up in the stadium. Fabregas shot the ball and… He scored! The game was tied at 2-2 now and Arsenal kept it that way until the very end. Arsenal had tied with arguably the best team in Europe and now most of the world is watching them.

UEFA Champions League

In the Champions League this week, Manchester United has been told that they were to play Bayern Munich, an almost unbeatable team these days. Manchester United fans are a little worried because Manchester has been slumping and in the course of a month they dropped down from number 2 to number 5. Who knows? It shouldn’t be that hard to find their way up. Ahhhhhhhhh! The match brings back so many memories. In 1999, these two teams played against each other. Eventually, through a couple of late goals, Manchester United won the match. The rivalry doesn’t stop their though. Two years late, Bayern came out with a 1-0 win. Might favorite thing about soccer is rivalries and this is a rivalry I won’t want to miss.
Another important match will be Barcelona vs Arsenal. The number one clubs from Spain and England will fight for 90 minutes hoping for a little luck on their side. Thierry Henry, a former Arsenal player, says he might feel weird entering his stadium where he scored a numerous amount of goals and carried them through many victories. He said that he will make sure that he plays his heart out.
Finally, Inter Milan will be put against CSKA Moscow, a team that has almost beaten Manchester United. Inter Milan may have a chance of losing this one because Moscow has shown their capabilities under pressure. It is most likely going to be a high scoring game, but I predict Inter Milan will win. The score may be 4-3, but who knows, it is soccer. Expect the unexpected!!!!!

Endurance Idahor

As you know, I am a big Sudanese soccer fan. I watch teams such as Al- Hilal and Al- Meriekh play all the time. One day, in the middle of a soccer game that my mother was watching, A man named Endurance Idahor collapsed after a small collision in about the 13th minute. Fans in the stands were saying that he was hurt badly and many people blamed it on the opposing team, Al- Amal. After about five minutes, people began to get scared and were wondering what happened to the Nigerian superstar. The ambulance came and the owner of Al- Meriekh was very angry and was seriously about to punch someone.When the ambulance took him, people started throwing rocks at the opposing team. Security had to protect them from every corner, but I am sure that even that was not enough. Idahor was a player that changed the team altogether and he was a key leader in their advancement. Players began to cry when a few minutes later, he was announced to be dead. When my aunt from Sudan called, she explained the horrors of the streets. Everyone had to go inside their homes for safety. Little did those raging fans know that he died from a heart attack, not the opposing team. RIP Idahor.

Matches Throughout the World

The number two team, Chelsea, played Manchester City last weekend. Manchester city is now ranked number seven. Two goals by Tevez and two goals by Bellamy were enough to defeat Chelsea and drop them from #1 to #2. Only two goals were scored by Chelsea and they were both from Lampard. Chelsea and Manchester United are now both slumping because now Manchester United is number five.

Arsenal, now the number 1 team, played Stoke City last Saturday as well with Arsenal winning 3-1. Arsenal has mad the dangerous climb to the top, but now they have to remain there and hope that no one else surprises them too. The first goal was scored by Pugh in Stoke City and the second was by Bendtner from Arsenal. The game remained that way for the entire game until the added time in which Arsenal scored two goals, one by Fabregas and one by Vermaelen. Most people thought it would end as a tie, but man were they mistaken.
